14.15H – 16.00H Introduction to Customer Service Course Duration: 2 Hours

“Great food, lousy service”, the old saw goes. In reality, this is a description of a business doomed to fail. So what is great service and how do we provide it to the customers? This session is dedicated to identifying, understanding and providing great customer service. Key areas include developing a service-oriented culture, understanding customer perspectives and internalizing service.

Note: Completion of this course can be applied towards Barista Guild of America Certification Class – Level One.

09.00H – 12.00H Profile Craft RoastingCourse Duration: 3 Hours
SCAA Course Code: RP210

This is primarily hands on roasting workshop designed for people who are working coffee roasters. Participants will be provided with the skill sets and tools with which to enhance the positive characteristics of a few particular coffees and in doing so, to foster an understanding of roast profiling. This class will have minimal lecture and will focus mainly on physical roasting with cupping to follow. Cupping experience is helpful. This class is meant for people in which roasting is an integral part of their jobs.

Note: Completion of this course can be applied towards Roasters Guild Certification – Journeyman Level, J10

09.00H – 12.00H Introduction to Espresso – Part 1 (First 3-hour half of a 6-hour class)Course Duration: 3 Hours

This workshop provides attendees with the fundamental principles of espresso preparation. In this session, attendees will work in a small group to learn how espresso is made, and essential elements necessary for a quality shot. Attendees will have an access to an espresso grinder and espresso machine. Topics covered include equipment knowledge, key control points of extraction and shot preparation methods.

13.00H – 16.00H Introduction to Espresso – Part 2 (Second 3-hour half of a 6-hour class)Course Duration: 3 Hours

This session provides attendees practical hands-on experience on an espresso grinder and espresso machine, preparing espresso and steaming milk. Attendees will pull shots, steam milk and prepare espresso beverages in this laboratory-style class.

Put your cupping skills to work while learning more about the world of coffee. Experience the difference that region and processing make on the unique flavors inherent to coffee through a series of cupping flights. On-hand experts guide attendees through the process, ensuring complete understanding in this three-hour class.

Note: Completion of this course can be applied towards Barista Guild of America Certification Class – Level Two and Roasters Guild Certification – Journeyman Level, J2.

13.00H – 16.00H Milk and Latte ArtCourse Duration: 3 Hours
SCAA Course Code: CP203

This class will introduce milk science and apply it to the learning of milk steaming and latte art techniques.

Note: Completion of this course can be applied towards Barista Guild of America Certification Class – Level One.

16.30H – 18.00H Barista Guild of America (BGA) Certification Level 1 ExamExam Duration: 1.5 Hours

The BGA Certification Level 1 Exam will evaluate the practical and theoretical knowledge of the Barista, at the most basic level. Based on several elements of the BGA Certification level 1 curriculum, completion of these courses is recommended, but not required. This exam is two-part timed consisting of a hands-on and written portion. Please be sure to attend the full hour.
